Greening for the future of my offspring

Children are often more aware than adults about the importance of being planet-friendly and the need to conserve scarce and precious natural resources.  Many however don't know what steps to take.   With the new year ahead, here are some ideas from JoJo Tanks that they can take to school to green their classroom: 1.       Start recycling of paper, plastic and metal in the classroom and motivate the entire school to participate 2.       Choose reusable packaging and a reusable BPA free water bottle, rather than throwaway plastic bottles to reduce waste creation at lunch time. 3.       Plant an indigenous tree outside the classroom for nature at your doorstep and a much cooler classroom 4.       Plants are nature's air filters and in the classroom they absorb computer radiation and airborne pollutants and provide oxygen and cooler air. Why Is Water Precious? All living things depend on water for survival. Plants need water to make food and grow. Many animals and plants live in water. Without water, there would be no food to eat, no clothes to wear, and no toys to play with. In fact, without water, we wouldn't exist! Did you know? Earth’s water is used over and over again. The water you use daily is older than the dinosaurs! The first water that appeared on Earth is all we will ever have. Nature’s water-recycling process, known as the water cycle, has kept the amount of water on Earth about the same for millions of years. Test yourself Did you know that your body is 70 percent water? One of the biggest threats facing farmers is rodent infestations that cause crop losses equalling millions of rands every year. Cities are not immune to rodent infestations either.   The ideal, green solution to controlling rodent populations, both on the farm and in the city, is to install an owl house.
